Trenton Councilwoman Vaughn Apologizes for Homophobic Comments: ‘It Was Wrong and I Own That’

Vaughn

Trenton Councilwoman Robin Vaughn issued an apology tonight over homophobic comments directed at Trenton Mayor Gusciora and Councilman Harrison on a conference call several days ago, first reported by the Trentonian, which was supposed to be about COVID-19 but devolved into a shouting match between the three.

Vaughn labeled the mayor a ‘pedophile’ during the call, while taunting Harrison to ‘bend over a little lower’ for Gusciora, among other comments.

Calls for an apology, and and her resignation, were swift in the aftermath.  She survived a censure from the council on Tuesday, according to the Trentonian.

Vaughn said she is ‘deeply sorry and specifically sorry for the language that has offended so many’, adding that it wasn’t her intent to ‘attack anyone on the basis of classification or personal preferences’.  She admitted she should have been ‘more sensitive to the potential implication’ of her words.

She said she remains ‘completely focused on the immense task ahead’.
