Speaker Craig Coughlin spokesperson Liza Acevedo is going to work for presidential candidate Julian Castro as the campaign’s deputy press secretary.

Prior to her role with Coughlin, Acevedo served as Deputy Press Secretary for New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy. In 2015, she served as Director of Communications for New York State Senator Michael Gianaris. Acevedo has also played various roles on campaigns in the New York region and was a member of the Hillary for America team.

Prior to entering politics, Acevedo volunteered in New Orleans to provide relief to families following Hurricane Katrina and throughout New York following Hurricane Sandy. Acevedo is a member of Moms Demand Action, volunteers regularly for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and serves as a mentor for high school and college students. She is originally from Brooklyn, New York. Liza is a graduate of Wheaton College (MA).
