Trump has been charged by the Department of Justice with the following four counts:
- A conspiracy to defraud the United States “by using dishonesty, fraud and deceit to obstruct the nation’s process of collecting, counting, and certifying the results of the presidential election,” according to the special counsel’s office.
- A conspiracy to impede the Jan. 6 congressional proceeding at which the collected results of the presidential election are counted and certified.
- A conspiracy against the right to vote and to have that vote counted.
- Obstruction of, and attempt to obstruct and impede, the certification of the electoral vote.
InsiderNJ legal analyst Joe Hayden offered the following context: “We have an historic indictment
of a president indicted for acts allegedly committed while he was still President of the United States. The charges constitute the most significant criminal prosecution brought in the history of the United States, because the conspiracy charged could well have brought us to the end of the electoral process and the end of democracy.
“Donald Trump, like every citizen, is entitled to be presumed innocent and the government must prove beyond its case a reasonable doubt. Anyone who has followed these investigations should read the indictment (see below) because Smith sets forth in devastating detail what he intends to prove. [Special Counsel] Jack Smith believes he has a very strong case. It is going to be tried in D.C. Hopefully they have a judge who’s going to move it fast. It was a major strategic choice to indict Donald Trump alone. He can’t use co-defendants to attempt to delay the case, and he can’t hide behind co-defendants at trial and cast blame at others.
“I believe it was inevitable that he would be indicted once they indicted and convicted for conspiracy the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers, for how do you indict the foot soldiers and middle managers and not indict the kingpin? It was Donald Trump who was desperately trying to stay in office. He knew he lost but refused to accept it because he wanted to play by his rules. People refusing to accept the legitimacy of the indictments are almost operating in an alternative legal universe. But there is no choice but to go forward on a solid case. Smith had to bring these charges. The other cases involved allegations of criminality. This case involves an assault on our democratic process.
For the third time–and certainly not the last–the 45th President of the United States has been indicted on serious felony charges.
Felony Donnie Trumpy has been indicted by a Washington, DC federal grand jury in special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 election leading up to the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol.
The traitor-in-chief has been charged with four counts: conspiracy to defraud the United States; conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding; obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding; and conspiracy against rights.
This comes on the heels of his indictment in Florida on federal charges pertaining to his failure to return classified documents from his presidency, which he had illegally removed to his estate in Florida. Before that, a New York State grand jury charged him with fraud and related crimes dealing with misuse of funds in the Stormy Daniels case.
Trump is still facing the likelihood of being indicted in Georgia for his actions attempting to overthrow the election in Georgia, where he asked the secretary of state to find votes to nullify his loss in that state. He may also be facing additional charges related to his incitement of the siege on the nation’s capital itself.
He immediately launched into the same spiel he has used in the previous cases, claiming he was the victim of a “witch hunt” by the Democrats. Clearly, this man has lost all touch with reality.
And it’s time the judicial system clamps down on him.
Although he enjoys a presumption of innocence under our legal system, the fact that he is facing multiple criminal cases and the real possibility of spending the rest of his life in a federal prison, at this point it becomes obvious that Trump, who is a narcissist without equal, may decide to flee the country and live in exile in a country that does not an extradition treaty with the United States. In addition, his actions and comments make him a clear and present danger to the security of the country.
Donald Trump is entitled to the same treatment as any other American citizen. No more, and no less. Given the precedent of other Americans who have been jailed on similar charges prior to trial–Chelsea Manning, Reality Winner and Jack Texiera come to mind–there is no justification for the former president to be treated any differently, especially since his wealth and access to a private jet clearly makes him a flight risk.
Given the serious nature of the charges, the fact that he has now been indicted in three jurisdictions (with more to follow), it is time for him to be held without bail pending trial.
I know people will say that this will make him a martyr to his base. Maybe it will, since his followers are as mentally deranged as he is. The fact is that he has been charged with crimes against the citizens of this country, and he should not be permitted to traverse the land preaching his whiny “I’m the victim” message.
When Trump is arraigned on the new charges, the judge should say “enough” and order him held in jail.
Stop treating this criminal with kid gloves.
It’s amazing that the Democrat-Communists, in control of the DOJ and FBI haven’t indicted President Trump with anything relevant. All of the indictments are just that–indictments; with no merit.
Based on comments from Deranged Democrats here, the indictments are an indictment of Democrats attempting to eliminate the First Amendment and political speech–so long as you agree with them. None of the indictments rise to misdemeanors, let alone felonies.
Isn’t it interesting that the 3 indictments come out everytime Resident Joe Biden, Hunter Biden and the Biden Crime Family get hit with more and more evidence, and credible witness and whistleblower testimony of their massive corruption and bribery. The Biden Racketeering Crime Family pay-to-play scheme has turned into the biggest corrupt and criminal administration in U.S. history. They are projecting their criminal acts on to Trump via a corrupt DOJ and FBI that they are in control of. Anyone who can’t see that is obviously part of the Communist apparatchik of the Deep State and a danger to the country and a danger to national security.
It’s funny that Michael Schnackenhamburger says Trump’s followers are as mentally deranged as he is. That means over 100 MILLION real Americans, not like Schnackenberg, are mentally deranged. If that’s the case, then Schnackenberg and the Democrat-Communists are in real trouble! Given Schnackenberg’s past history of making unsupported, false claims, I don’t recall him ever obtaining a psychologist’s or psychiatrist’s degree or license to make inane, frivolous sweeping statements.
