Van Drew Doesn’t Back Either Immigration Bill at this Point
Although he supports immigration reform, the campaign of state Senator Jeff Van Drew (D-1) said the 2nd Congressional District candidate at this point doesn’t favor either the compromise bill crafted by Speaker Paul Ryan or the bill backed by President Donald J. Trump.
“There is no question that our immigration system is broken. We need an immigration plan that is tough, practical and fair, and must strengthen border security,” Van Drew Spokesman Michael Muller said.
“There are children that have lived here for many years, identify as American, and we have a moral obligation to make sure families are not separated. And, we must provide law-abiding immigrant families the same opportunities our parents and grandparents had to play by the rules and earn their citizenship,” Muller added. “It is absolutely shameful that Congress has failed to reach common ground on immigration reform for years. The failure to come together on immigration reform and find a commonsense solution is another example of the dysfunction in Washington, and why we need more consensus builders to resolve the challenges our country faces.”
Van Drew’s opponent, attorney Seth Grossman, unequivocally backs the Trump bill.
