Watson Coleman Announces Her Support for Pelosi
Today, Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-12) announced support for Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House, Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer for Majority Leader and Assistant Democratic Leader Jim Clyburn for Democratic Whip in the 116th Congress, and indicated that she would sign letters to that effect. Congresswoman Watson Coleman issued the following statement:
“The American people didn’t just deliver blue wave — they delivered a wave of diverse, thoughtful and energetic new Members from coast to coast that better reflects the people of our great nation. Leader Pelosi, Whip Hoyer and Assistant Leader Clyburn have repeatedly demonstrated their commitment to improving the lives of working families, achieving equal protections and access across gender, race and religion, protecting our environment and much more — and I am confident in their abilities to lead us in this moment of change.
“In this new majority, we will be better positioned than ever to set a positive agenda for the nation and finally hold President Trump accountable for his numerous conflicts of interest, questionable decision making and direct attacks on New Jersey families. With the leadership of Pelosi, Hoyer and Clyburn, Democrats will be well positioned to build a better future for every American family in the next Congress.”
I’m shocked! Shocked! Round up the usual suspects.
I’m crushed to read this. If Bonnie has a primary challenger in two years, I’ll vote for them. Her support of Pelosi is a deal-killer for me.
The Democrats under Pelosi HAD the presidency.. and the Senate… and the House. And we got forced buy-in to the for profit health insurance industry parasites (ACA) instead of single-payer / Medicare For All. We got escalating student loan debt instead of publicly financed higher education. We got a bail out to Wall Street while hundreds of thousands lost their homes. We got a spike in the growth of wealth / opportunity/ income gap instead of a livable wage. We got an extension of the absurd Bush tax cuts. We got the drone bombing of seven countries. We got Israel getting a pass on any crimes against humanity they feel like perpetuating. We got “too big to fail” banks that doubled in size and the criminality that led to the 2007 crash not only go un-prosecuted, but rewarded by 100 million dollar bonuses.
That’s what Pelosi brought and what she’ll bring again.
A congressperson can support Pelosi OR they can support the working and middle class and the goals we need … we INSIST our government fight for. In other words, we need open revolt against Pelosi and all she damned stands for.
Imagine if progressives had someone who fought as hard, dirty and tough as Mitch McTurtle does for the Right?
We’d have single-payer, publicly financed higher education, a fair tax structure with billionaires and corporations paying their share, world peace, and a livable wage by now!
