Watson Coleman: Mob Sparked by Trump’s ‘Incendiary Rhetoric’

CD12 Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman fired back at Union County Democratic Chair and Senator Nick Scutari after a published report said Scutari claimed she lied to him about her endorsement in Tuesday’s election.

U.S. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-12) this afternoon released a statement in response to a pro-Trump mob invading the United States Capitol.

“While this is an ongoing incident I want to first let everyone know that I am safe,” Watson Coleman said. “This is not a mere protest, this is a disruption of democracy. And it is the direct result of incendiary rhetoric from the President and members of his party.

“It’s the last gasp of a party that has abandoned its commitment to our country’s ideals,” the congresswoman added. “When we have resolved the destruction, violence and chaos in the Capitol, we’ll go back to the business of confirming the votes of the American people.”

Unable to acknowledge his 2020 loss, Trump earlier this afternoon attacked his vice president via Twitter as an unlawful breach of the United States Capitol by Trump’s supporters created an escalating and unprecedented dangerous and anarchic situation.

“Mike Pence didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country and our Constitution, giving States a chance to certify a corrected set of facts, not the fraudulent or inaccurate ones which they were asked to previously certify. USA demands the truth!” Trump tweeted.

According to media reports, members of Congress were sheltering in place amid flashbangs and Trump supporters – convinced their candidate for reelection won last year – laying siege to the U.S. Capitol Building. Live images showed protesters in the rotunda area of the U.S. Capitol as police forces responded to the scene.

Earlier today, Vice President Mike Pence publicly broke with President Donald Trump, saying in a letter to Congress that he cannot submit to demands he overthrow the results of the election, according to CNN.
