Weinberg Backs Weber for Congress in CD7
Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg (D-37) this morning endorsed Linda Weber for Congress in the 7th District.
The Bergen Democrat planted her endorsement on the eve of tomorrow’s Union County Democratic Committee meeting that will decide the line in that critical CD7 county.
Weber is vying for the county organization’s support with four other Democratic candidates, but it’s former Assistant Secretary of State Tom Malinowski who poses the biggest threat.
“This week you will make an important decision as you select a Democratic candidate to run for Congress from your district,” Weinberg wrote. “Your choice is important to all New Jersey residents. We want the best possible candidate. We want to win back Congress. From everything I’ve learned there are two very capable persons seeking your endorsement.
“But only one of them is a woman!” the senate majority leader noted. “And New Jersey currently has only one woman in our congressional delegation. Only one of the candidates has lived in the district most of her life! Only one of them will actually help our party give more than “lip service” to providing women access to elected office.
“Linda Weber is that one person!” she added. “Please consider the message our party in Union County sends to all those women we are asking to join us to turn Congress around during the mid term election.
You can send a clear message to the women of our state. Please send that message. Please support Linda Weber as your candidate for Congress.”
This is disappointing. Malinowski has deep roots in NJ and cares about the 7th district. He is also great on women’s issues and has strong support among women in the 7th. Most importantly, he has 30 years of experience in government, whereas Weber has none whatsoever.
