Mayor Derek Armstead tonight defeated Gretchen Hickey and Rhashonna Cosby in the Democratic Primary in Linden.

It was a crushing victory for the incumbent, who dealt a loss to his local rival, Union County Democratic Committee Chairman Nick Scutari.

His running mate, incumbent Councilwoman Michele Yamakaitis, also won.

Armstead won by almost 1500 votes.

Council President Alvarez – a Hickey ally – also lost reelection.
